Yes they work in both private matches and in squads mode, although they can not be used as AI default loadouts in squads for some reason.

The only way to deal with a troll or griefer in a video game is to just ingore them, leave lobby at end of match mark as avoid. If they follow to new lobby that is stalking and is a reportable offense.
