Hey Pros,

All I ever play these days is TDM, but I am thinking about starting a new account for FFA...

I have got to where I want to be with TDM, and I am happy with that. I know the spawns and maps, and I do pretty good in most games, but if I get any other decent players on my team, then obviously the kill count isn't as often a 30 as there are only 75 kills to split 6 ways...

The point of this thread is to seek knowledge and advice from seasoned FFA players who have a good playing knowledge of how FFA and TDM play styles differ...

  • Can I just take my TDM play style and expect to do well in FFA?

  • How does the spawning system work in FFA?

  • Are there any "Must Have" perks for FFA?

I mean is there anything I need to know before I make the jump?

Thanks for any practical help...

As someone who plays FFA 99.9% of their time and has around 10 days played since day one of game release I'd like to offer some advice.

First, my question to you is do you own a set of gaming headphones? The reason I ask is that FFA more than any other game mode can extremely benefit in the ability to successfully use the dead silence/amplify combo. Every footstep you hear you can guarantee is an enemy, and that ability to "soundwhore" properly will make even the average player start going 30-10 or better. But please for the love of everything good about this game don't camp in a corner with amplify and an lmg lol. The use of dead silence and amplify enhances the ability to move around, track others down, and not get snuck up on from behind while moving.

Soundwhoring aside, you can still do very well in FFA. Yes you can bring TDM play style to FFA, like holding down sections of a map, cutoff points, etc. But thats really the extent of it, you really won't be running support streaks or running halfway up a map when it first starts.

Learning the spawns in FFA is very important, this takes time tho or do some youtube searches. The spawning system in FFA is different, and when a game begins I can guarantee 9 time out of 10 that there will be another player extremely close to you, usually just around a corner and then in a clear sight line. The spawns are also so bad that if you don't get control of a game or an area early on you can get in to a viscous cycle of spawning and dying as you spawn in to areas that other players are locking down. My recommendation to start your FFA experience is to stick to the 1/4 of the map you spawn at and patrol it, find good vantage points, stick to map perimeters if possible, check high traffic areas etc. This will let you learn an area of the map in FFA and see how spawns work while still moving around but at less risk. I'm NOT saying camp, and NOT saying spawn kill, but merely map control a quadrant by patrolling the hot spots,, notorious camper spots etc.

Must have perks for me are dead silence and amplify, everything else is interchangeable to me depending on the class I'm using and the map. I often have focus and quickdraw on my assault rifles, it really allows you to win the majority of your 1 on 1 gun fights even up close against smg users i have found.

Hey Man, I really appreciate you taking the time to write me so much good advice...

Firstly, yes I use a gaming headset, an old pair of Turtle Beach X41s which are pretty good for that 3D spacial awareness...

I actually played 3 games last night using my fave running class which is my ChainSAW class (I only use LMGs). I switched only a couple of perks from my TDM set up, swapping Scavenger for ICU and Blast Shield for Hardline...

I used to play FFA on other titles, and I took some of the advice given already in the thread. I thought I'd just jump in and patrol small parts of the map, avoiding the longer sight lines and trying to work out the spawns, and the spawn system...

I can't work out whether it's the "Revenge Spawn System" where you kill a guy, and he spawns close by. I still am not sure about that? Please advise?

Well I was surprisingly doing quite well from the off. I won the 1st game 30 and 9, but some Tit dashboarded right at the end, so I lost that one. This happened to me 3 times in a row with varying scores, but it was enough to chase me back to TDM...

I'll have another go today while the stat whores are at school and see how it pans out...

Thanks again for the help Bud, appreciate that...
